Hello and welcome to Written Lives!
I’m Quiana.
In case you’ve been wondering who writes the articles you’re reading, I’m here to introduce myself!
To begin with, let me tell you how I got started on this writing journey.
I could say I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, but I actually can remember the day I picked up a pencil and wrote the first word of my first story.
It was a school assignment. But the funny thing is, it wasn’t my school assignment. It was my older sister’s. Which I begged my mom, who was also my teacher (I was home schooled from K-12), to let me do as well.
As you might have expected, my mom didn’t need much convincing. From that day till now, she’s done everything possible to encourage me in writing.
In the years that followed, she often found me awake in the middle of the night— writing to capture ideas before I forgot them. Rather than forbidding me to get out of bed, she got me a pencil, notebook, and flashlight to keep beside my bed. I can’t count how many times she has told me I can be a writer, God hasn’t given me this passion for no reason, and He will show me a way to glorify Him through this skill.
She and my siblings win the award for being my best readers — for years they’ve listened to page after page of unedited writing, to stories which never got an end.
So, with much time and encouragement, my first story was followed by another, which was followed by another until…here I am. Blogging, writing guest posts for other online platforms, and aspiring to one day be published as a historical fiction author.
While I work towards those ends, taking a few detours every now and then, I’m thoroughly enjoying every opportunity to grow in the craft of writing. Striving to do this work for God’s glory and to impact the lives of others through my words.
Seven “fun facts” about me:
• I’m a Christian and would love to tell you about the very costly and fully sufficient sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf.
• I’m part of an incredible family. In which I play the roles of daughter, sister and aunty.
• I’m blessed to do life with an amazing group of local Christians – who have taught me that those you go to church with aren’t meant to be mere friends, but rather family.
• I work full-time in the pro-life movement.
• I love kids! Which is why I worked as a nanny for eight years.
• One of my favourite places is a little acreage owned by some friends of mine. It’s where my horse, Silken, calls home.
• I love editing almost as much as (actually, sometimes more than) writing.
